"Wonder had gone away, and he had forgotten that all life is only a set of pictures in the brain, among which there is no difference betwixt those born of real things and those born of inward dreamings, and no cause to value the one above the other." --H.P. Lovecraft, The Silver Key

The Devil You Know: I've got it in my greedy hands
Today I did something rather out of the ordinary in my all too ordinary life--I bought a CD on its first day of release: The new Black Sabbath (scratch that, Heaven and Hell) album, The Devil You Know.
I know, I'm a damned lunatic. Stand back.
It's way too early for me to post an honest review and frankly, I haven't given my full attention to the album yet. But my initial impression is that it's got a good, dark, bass-heavy sound, decent if not soaring vocals by Dio, and at least one early leader: a great song named "Bible Black."
More on this to come.
clearly you've lost control, I'm going to have to have a word with your wife...
ReplyDeleteYAY for another person who still buys CDs! And I thought I was the only one. Granted, I've bought 19 in the past month, though.... I guess I'm old school about everything. 8)
ReplyDeleteDon't feel too bad: I plan on picking this up as soon as I get out from work. Ever since seeing Black Sabb-err "Heaven and Hell" when they were touring with Megadeth I've been looking forward to some new material from the group. As someone with the somewhat heretical stance that the best output from Sabbath was during the Dio years, this release is very welcome.
ReplyDeleteTHE METAL! I'll need to grab this one as soon as I can get to a record store (a sadly endangered species these days).
ReplyDeleteIt's as inspiring to see these guys still doing so well at their age as it's sad to see what's become of Ozzy.
Thanks for dropping by, everyone. See my complete review in the post above.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I still buy CDs. Downloading music from iTunes (which I've done) feels suspiciously like I'm not actually getting anything for my hard-earned 99 cents.
I'm sure I'll get an iPod at some point but I'll always need the physical object to be happy. Partially because for metal albums in particular, artwork is always important, and also because my computer hard drive simply stopped working a few months ago, wiping out everything that had been downloaded on it. I'm too paranoid about that happening again to ever be bully for "all downloads, all the time".
