Latest issue of Arcane Arts is out

Issue no. 10 of Arcane Arts hit inboxes this AM. I've been nailing this every week, like clockwork on Wednesday morning, though as noted in this week's issue next week might end my streak (I have to travel to Chicago on business).

This week we covered:

  • The holy grail
  • Robert Plant
  • My new author page on Facebook
  • L. Sprague de Camp controversy
  • Poul Anderson's The Last Viking
If you haven't signed up yet, throw your email in the widget at right. My subscribers are ticking up but its slow; if you know someone who might like what I cover in the newsletter forward them an email or send them here to sign up.

  1. Hello Brian.

Yesterday, I signed up for the Arcane Arts newsletter. I entered my email and First Name in the Widget, clicked "Sign Up Today", and waited.

A hour passed. I didn't get any AA email, so I entered my email and First Name in the Widget, and clicked "Sign Up Today", and waited.

Now 26 hours have passed since I did this, but I still haven't got the Arcane Arts newsletter.

Do you know what the issue could be? I live in Europe, and use a Google Email, if that's any help.

  3. BTW, I quite enjoyed your article on the Holy Grail.

I wonder have you ever heard of the 1955 book "To The Chapel Perilous" by Naomi Mitchison ? It is a fantasy novel about the quest for the Holy Grail, and Mitchison uses the novel to discuss different ideas and appearances of the sacred cup, and also how powerful groups can manipulate religious and political narratives.

Not only was Naomi Mitchison a friend of J. R. R. Tolkien, but If you read the book
" H. P. Lovecraft: Letters to C. L. Moore and Others", you'll see that Moore tells Lovecraft that she admires' Naomi Mitchison's historical fiction.
Plus, one collection of Mitchison's historical short narratives bore the REH-friendly title "Barbarian Stories" !

    1. Thanks for the recommendation ... I have not heard of the Mitchison title. Sounds interesting. I have read the Lovecraft/Moore and others letters collection, but a long time ago.
